This is what $10 will buy you in rainbow canvas when Ikea finally decides to sell it all off…

And all rolled up:

cozies

Those of you who may have had the pleasure (and by pleasure i mean by way of comedic value) of observing my wardrobe or visiting my apartment probably have noticed that I have an affinity for jackets and fuzzies. In fact, if you had seen me last weekend you might have witnessed a particularly unique occurrence of this region- I wore my down coat to an outdoor play in June! And not just a down coat, I had a hat and scarf on as well. While I can attribute some of this desire to dress warmly to the chill of san francisco fog, Nick was sitting next to me in flip flops with no complaints. The point of this post is not to wax on about my wardrobe choices but to discuss how I also attribute the desire to dress warmly to my inanimate objects. I have noticed that i like to make sweaters jackets and cozies for electronic devices. In their own way each of these garments has some practical purpose, to keep ipods and laptops from getting scratched or to keep my hand warm when im drinking a cold beer, but sometimes I wonder if its just me thinking that the monitor needs a jacket and patagonia doesnt make one…

Cal themed homemade stuff

I made some things to put in the Cal Sailing Team’s spring Auction.

A pillow with appliquéd script-Cal. All the freshman girls wanted this one! Nick was also offering to bid negative dollars to make sure it would leave the house.

The 6-pack in all its glory. Oh yes, I take commissions.

New Lady in the house

Here she is… My new sewing machine. Born 1951 in Anderson SC she now comes to me after the best craigslist experience Ive ever had.

She weighs in at ~16lbs while my previous sewing machine, a 1913 White rotary (the bottom photo), probably weighs 50.

The woman who gave me the machine said it needed a name–thats right, a really nice woman I met on craigslist GAVE me this machine in return for me working to “save the earth from the ill effects of humanity” (which is really what I do already, right?). Anyone have a good suggestion?

The bottom picture is my old(er) machine. It was my grandmothers which she had converted to an electric. It still runs like a champ, but after sewing on the Singer 301 there is really no comparison. In fact I think that due to lack of apartment space the white will be put out to pasture at my Mom’s house. It still amazes me that a machine made in 1913 is still perfectly functional. I think we might have to throw a 100th birthday party for it or something.
